Spring Newsletter 2019

Beautiful Orchids at Kew Gardens

Hello and welcome to the spring 2019 edition of the Voice-MS newsletter. Things are settling down after a busy start to the year. I am absolutely grateful for the opportunities and incredible people I have met recently in London, Stratford, Nottingham and Derby. Thanks a million to all my wonderful clients, students, colleagues and friends for all the hard work and passion.

In springtime there’s new life all around. It’s so refreshing to see the beautiful gardens begin to flourish and rejuvenate. I find it so humbling to see the flowers I’d planted previously grow again with very little nurturing and the resilient weeds that just keep on growing in the most ridiculous places. Nature teaches us about growth and resilience.

Often many of us consider the New Year a time for transformation and new beginnings but I feel spring is a great time to snap into action with your revived energy to get things done. Set your goals and be the best you can be! Be open and resilient.

  • If it is to lead your company to success you’ll need a powerful voice.

  • If it is to nail that audition you can do it with a good connection to the text.

  • If it is to give an inspiring speech or presentation consider your audience and win their hearts.

Voice work is ‘you’ work. It’s about finding presence and connection with yourself and your thoughts to communicate your ideas to the world outside. Sometimes we need a reassurance and validation of our skills to be able to successfully express ourselves and make a difference.

To get you further into the forthcoming season here’s an uplifting poem for an appreciation of the present moment:

By Billy Collins

If ever there were a spring day so perfect, so uplifted by a warm intermittent breeze

that it made you want to throw open all the windows in the house

and unlatch the door to the canary's cage, indeed, rip the little door from its jamb,

a day when the cool brick paths and the garden bursting with peonies

seemed so etched in sunlight that you felt like taking

a hammer to the glass paperweight on the living room end table,

releasing the inhabitants from their snow-covered cottage

so they could walk out, holding hands and squinting

into this larger dome of blue and white, well, today is just that kind of day.

From Aimless Love: New and Selected Poems by Billy Collins

Tip of the month…

Rather than a specific tip this is more of a recommendation. Presence by Patsy Rodenburg is an enormous help for anyone wanting to get to grips with how to channel and direct their energy for positive success. Rodenburg discusses three circles of energy and identifies the patterns of behaviour that leads us to one of the three. I find this book particularly useful for work on presentations and interviews. It gives a great insight into how we may come across and the signals that we could change to create a better outcome.
